List of Tilesets

Tilesets (or “graphic sets”) dictate what graphics are loaded and are used to makeup the visuals of the current room. The tileset used is selected on a room-by-room basis and is unique to each room/room header. They are selectable on the right of the main window of SMILE in a drop-down box with values between 1 and 29. Below is a list of tilesets, what they contain, and where they are used.

The first value is displayed as it would be shown in SMILE while the value in brackets is what it would be displayed as in raw hex while viewing/changing a room header.

01[00] - Crateria. Purple mountian background and interior, ocean graphics, and Wrecked Ship exterior.
02[01] - Crateria. Red mountian background and interior, ocean graphics, and Wrecked Ship exterior. Unused.
03[02] - Crateria. Old Tourian (planet is awake), mushroom caves, and bircks.
04[03] - Crateria. Old Tourian (planet is asleep), mushroom caves, and bircks.
05[04] - Wrecked Ship. Interior and ship is powered (Phantoon/boss defeaed).
06[05] - Wrecked Ship. Interior and ship is not powered (Phantoon/boss undefeaed).
07[06] - Brinstar. Upper portions which include Green, Pink, and Blue/Retro Brinstar.
08[07] - Brinstar. Lower portions which include Red Brinstar and Kraid's area.
09[08] - Brinstar. Lower portions which include Black Brinstar (unused) and Kraid's area (used before boss statues).
10[09] - Norfair. Heated Norfair rooms and Lower Norfair related tiles.
11[0A] - Norfair. Non-heated Norfair rooms and Lower Norfair related tiles.
12[0B] - Maridia. Rocky/coral portions, seaweed/vines, and sandy Maridia.
13[0C] - Maridia. Pipes and bricks for "boss" portion of Maridia and quicksand related tiles. Also smooth stone leading to Springball's area.
14[0D] - Tourian. Sandy, big Metroid themed rooms.
15[0E] - Tourian. All rooms beside those similar to the big Metroid's.
16[0F] - Ceres. Ceres pre-escape. Only usable in area 06 by default.
17[10] - Ceres. Ceres during escape. Only usable in area 06 by default.
18[11] - Ceres. Mode 7? Don't touch.
19[12] - Ceres. Mode 7? Don't touch.
20[13] - Ceres. Mode 7? Don't touch.
21[14] - Ceres. Mode 7? Don't touch.
22[15] - Map/energy/missile station. Grey colored map rooms. Also used for boss statues room.
23[16] - Map/energy/missile station. Dark purple colored rooms. Can be used for boss statues room.
24[17] - Map/energy/missile station. Blue colored rooms. Can be used for boss statues room.
25[18] - Map/energy/missile station. Beige(?) colored rooms. Can be used for boss statues room.
26[19] - Map/energy/missile station. Orange(?) colored rooms. Can be used for boss statues room.
27[1A] - Brinstar. Kraid's room's tileset. Overwrites CRE and should be used in conjunction with setting proper special graphics bitflag.
28[1B] - Norfair. Crocomire's room's tileset.
29[1C] - Maridia. Draygon's room's tileset.
